@mr. ringetone:
Vi er nok enige, men det er verdt å legge merke til at musikken ikke er gratis, vi betaler bare ikke for den to ganger. Musikken kostet penger på CD/mp3 download/what ever, i første omgang.

JA ringetoner er big business. Hvorfor skjønner ikke de fleste forbrukerne dette, hvis man vil ha gratis ringetoner er det bare å rippe egen musikk i stedet for å betale for den.

You're right -- it's down to personal preference at the end of the day, and there isn't a clear-cut 'right' or 'wrong' way to read online.

I understand why people choose to split all their incoming attention-seekers over several applications, but simply don't feel it offers any real advantages. If I don't have time to read a new blog post I've been emailed, I'll star it for later. There really is a benefit -- both in terms of time and convenience -- of having everything in one place.

I think the difference between splitting information across several sources and directing it all at one inbox is largely psychological -- people may feel more in control because they get to go to their RSS reader when they choose to instead of having posts come to them by email, but, at the end of the day, they've still got to process that information at some point or risk being overloaded.

It's an interesting discussion, and I'm always fascinated by the great variety of ways that people manage themselves and their information. Thanks for joining in and for responding so thoughtfully.

And thank you for looking through your trackbacks!
Do you use a rss-reader to do that? Or do you manually open the webpage? ..no you probably get an automatically sent email, right?
Brilliant, if that is to your liking.

I also get emails from my web page when something like new comments and trackbacks need handling, and that is ok. My web page is something i consider important enough to be bothered with in my mail.

Most other issues are more distant, and therefore has nothing to do in my inbox. Like updates from webpages that are not mine. That kind of information should be separated into another category. In this issue, a rss-reader, or even better: the rss-reader included in my mail app. Both apple mail and mozilla thunderbird has this feature. Perhaps even michrosofts email-app. I dunno.

I consider this a a more tidy, time efficient and superior way of handling subscriptions to online content. Mail (work/personal/school-related, and RSS (more distant subscription to stuff i might like to be updated on, but I don't have to).

More can be more.
More technology can be better is this issue. Mail app to handle (1) mail and (2) important rss, like girlfriend & familys flickr, blogs & youtube..), and a third (3) rss reader for news, magazines, blogs of interest outside the close circle, and so on. This is stuff that you/I just want to read, but don't have to read.

I'm glad and impressed that you read my post.
But I still think we might have to agree to disagree on this. You quite clearly state that "Email updates: [is] better for everyone", "Goodbye orange buttons" & "Email updates: [is/will be/please become.. ?] the new subscription standard" .. and to this I strongly disagree.

I do like the choice, but I find it easier to teach my mother and uncle how to use a rss reader, than to find mails from slashdot, thedaylymail or flancymagazine in my inbox. The inbox is for mail, and automatically send mail, is 99% of the times stuff I do not want.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and link to my post. I recommend that you look at my comments on a similar article by Men With Pens:

http://menwithpens.ca/feed-reader-heaven-or-email-hell

I make some harder-hitting points in the comments that you may find interesting; essentially, you should know that I'm not arguing for email as a replacement for RSS as you've written here, but as a healthier alternative that is likely to suit many people better and encourage tidier reading habits.

Sjekk om STV har lagt ut noe, det er ikke utenkelig.

Ser også at NRK nå kringkaster den norske versjonen på TV for tiden, for de av oss som eventuelt ser på TV.
